PIPE LINING ENCLOSURES FROM ALASKA STRUCTURES®
Modern pipe rehabilitation projects demand controlled environments that protect personnel, equipment, and work zones—often in tight urban spaces or environmentally sensitive areas. Pipe lining enclosures are purpose-designed fabric buildings that provide weather protection, containment, and operational efficiency for trenchless pipeline rehabilitation projects.
These structures are commonly used to support:
- Internal pipeline lining systems
- Pipe lining systems and lined pipe systems
- Pull-in-place lining operations
- No-dig trenchless pipe lining systems, often referred to as Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP)
By enclosing the jobsite, pipe lining enclosures help maintain consistent working conditions, support curing processes, improve safety, and reduce environmental and public impact—especially in high-traffic or historic locations.

FABRIC BUILDINGS ENGINEERED FOR TRENCHLESS REHABILITATION
Alaska Structures® designs and engineers fabric buildings and enclosures specifically for pipe lining operations and other trenchless technologies. Each enclosure can be customized to accommodate:
- Lining equipment and curing systems
- Crew access and material staging
- Ventilation and environmental control requirements
- Crane-liftable or relocatable deployment for phased project
These tensioned fabric structures are designed to move as projects progress—reducing setup time and improving overall project efficiency.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: BOSTON COMMON WATER MAIN REHABILITATION
During the rehabilitation of a failing water main beneath Boston’s historic Boston Common Park, United Pipeline Systems utilized trenchless pipe lining methods to restore critical underground infrastructure while minimizing surface disruption in one of the city’s most sensitive public spaces.
To support the project, United Pipeline Systems selected Alaska Structures® to design and manufacture a crane-liftable fabric building to enclose the pipe lining operation. The enclosure was engineered to house personnel, equipment, and pipe lining systems and to be easily relocated as lining operations advanced.
The rehabilitation work was carried out during cold winter conditions, making environmental protection essential. The pipe lining enclosure provided by Alaska Structures® played a critical role in:
- Protecting specialized pipe lining equipment from freezing temperatures
- Helping maintain controlled internal conditions to support the curing process
- Allowing work to continue despite harsh weather
- Reducing weather-related delays and downtime
Working on behalf of the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, United Pipeline Systems successfully completed the trenchless rehabilitation with minimal excavation—preserving the historic landscape above while restoring the aging water main below.
This project highlights how pipe lining enclosures and pre-engineered fabric buildings from Alaska Structures® are used to support internal pipeline lining systems, pull-in-place lining, and no-dig trenchless pipe lining methods such as Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP), particularly in cold climates and urban environments where protection, mobility, and environmental control are critical.
