Salt and Sand Storage Buildings From Alaska Structures
Alaska Structures® is the leading manufacturer of engineered fabric buildings for salt storage, sand storage, and frac sand storage. Our bulk storage buildings offer clients shorter construction times, customizable designs, and a clear-span interior that allows trucks, front-loaders, and plows to safely operate inside the structure. Every salt and sand storage facility from Alaska Structures is engineered to the latest IBC (International Building Code), ASCE/SEI 7, and AISC standards of design and construction to ensure safety, comply with local zoning ordinances, and protect the environment.
Uncovered bulk materials will on average experience a 20% loss due to runoff, leaching, wind, rain and other natural events. The implications by not covering salt can be costly and salt-saturated runoff can have serious impacts on the surrounding area, water systems, plants, animals and people. Since opening our doors in 1975, Alaska Structures has worked with many government and municipal agencies, public works departments, school districts, and Departments of Transportation (DOTs) to create temporary salt storage facilities of all sizes for seasonal use, or permanent year-round salt storage buildings. No other building manufacturer can match our engineering capability or our proven track record for creating the safest and most reliable engineered fabric buildings available. In our 40-plus years of being in business, we have produced, shipped, and setup over 55,000 fabric structures in more than 65 countries around the world on time and within budget.

The Benefits Of Sand & Salt Storage Facilities From Alaska Structures
Have peace of mind knowing equipment, personnel, and stored salt, sand, or frac sand will be kept safe in an Alaska Structures’ engineered fabric structure. Our team of experienced and dedicated building specialists will work with you or your management team to custom design a salt and sand storage facility that meets your exact specifications. Our engineered salt and sand storage structures are available in widths up to 150’ wide, and customizable to any height or length.
All Alaska Structures’ fabric buildings have minimal foundation requirements, requiring less site preparation than conventional and metal buildings. Many of our salt and sand clients choose to construct their salt and sand storage facility directly on top of pony-walls or use concrete ecology blocks. This is a fast and economical way to create a foundation, adds additional height to the building, allows salt, sand, or frac sand to be properly stored against the sides of the facility, and allows large-bucket vehicles to easily load and unload salt, sand or frac sand from the storage facility, reducing the risk of damaging the tensioned membrane.
Choose from open ended salt and sand storage facilities, or enclose the storage building with ends and a large selection of personnel and equipment doors. Alaska Structures offers many ventilation and temperature control systems. Whether it is louvered vents for natural airflow, or you wish to keep the interior temperature and humidity at a specific levels so equipment, vehicles, salt and sand piles remain usable during winter months, even in the most extreme of temperatures. We offer a complete line of lighting, electrical, and power distribution systems. If you are looking to reduce energy usage during the day, add skylights to your salt and sand storage facility. Our skylight material is translucent and diffuses sun light creating a “soft” glow that reduces shadows and improves worker safety.
When you choose to work with Alaska Structures, you benefit from the expertise of 40-plus years providing the highest quality and most engineered fabric structures. Our frames are available in aircraft-grade aluminum or triple-galvanized steel to avoid corrosion. Optional powder coating adds a 4th level of protection and is available in many colors. Our tensioned membranes are made with high quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC) fabrics, also available in a large selection of colors and patterns. PVC fabrics are superior to polyethylene (PE) covers used by other fabric building suppliers.
