FOUNDATION REQUIREMENTS FOR FABRIC BUILDINGS
WeatherPort fabric structures to almost any foundation type. We know that no single foundation material works for every project, budget or requirement.
We recommend these foundation options when installing WeatherPort structures (you’ll see that you have tons of flexibility):
- Level asphalt, gravel or earth
- Wood platforms
- Concrete
- Intermodal shipping containers (aka ISO containers)
- Precast concrete blocks (aka ecology blocks)
Concrete Foundations
Concrete foundations are an excellent option for your WeatherPort structure.
With concrete, you have a clean ground surface that maximizes the building’s stability. You can easily attach WeatherPort fabric buildings to concrete foundations via concrete wedges, sleeves and/or expansion anchors.
If you plan to keep your WeatherPort building in one place for a long time, our engineers suggest you use concrete in any of these forms:
- Precast concrete blocks (aka ecology blocks)
- Poured-in-place (PIP) concrete walls
- PIP concrete slab-on-grade
- Precast slab sections
- Subgrade continuous footers
- Subgrade pier footers
Larger buildings, like gable truss warehouses, suit concrete foundations well. If you need to anchor your fabric building to a shipping container, skid or trailer, then simply bolt or weld your WeatherPort building to the supporting structure.
Wood Foundations
Wood is a solid choice as a foundation for guide and outfitter camps, private cabins and yurts. All of our fabric structures are designed for easy installation. You can easily attach your WeatherPort fabric building with lag bolts.
Non-Foundation Surfaces
Not every project requires concrete or wood foundations, of course. That’s why WeatherPort offers other safe, strong and field-tested anchors that reduce costs — you’ll have less site prep and shorter construction times.
Half-inch (1/2”) diameter spikes and duckbill anchors are popular options for securing directly on level ground. This is especially true for portable fabric structures (such as party tents) as well as small- to medium-sized buildings (such as garages and carports).

Anchor Alternatives
WeatherPort structures are amazingly versatile, accommodating sites beyond concrete, wood and non-foundation surfaces. We offer other safe, strong anchoring options that meet strict construction and engineering standards.
For example, our 1/2” x 18” (1.27 cm x 45.72 cm) spikes and duckbill anchors work well for anchoring directly onto the ground.
In fact, we engineer multiple anchors and foundation systems for our tensioned fabric buildings. That said, you should consider a few factors to find the best option for your project — including foundation requirements, materials used and function.
