Alaska Medical Shelter Systems®
The Alaska Medical Shelter System, which consists of the Alaska Medical Shelter, the Alaska Surgical Suite Shelter, the Alaska Medical Shelter Extension, and the Alaska Medical Shelter Vestibule, is the only medical shelter system on the US Air Force's Expeditionary Medical System's (EMEDS) Table of Allowance. In 2001, the US Air Force conducted a competitive solicitation for the US Air Force's Medical Department and the Alaska Medical Shelter System was the only system that met all of the requirements for the EMEDS system.
The Alaska Medical Shelter is the only shelter in the USAF inventory that has been successfully tested to meet the 1999 USAF Operational Requirements Document (ORD) for a New Family of Portable Shelters.
All EMEDS Basic, EMEDS +10 and EMEDS +25 packages are created using the Alaska Medical Shelter System. No other military tents or shelters can be used to form the EMEDS' packages.
A Chemically-Protected EMEDS System is available through the addition of a special CP liner system to all of the AKMSS shelters, a 7 ft. x 24 ft. Alaska Airlock Vestibule and a filtration system on the ECU's used with each shelter.
